CSR in the Workplace

Being a better employer

Our staff are our most important asset and we demonstrate our commitment by employing high practices and standards. An appropriately qualified workforce is vital to the ongoing success of our business, so we provide training and development to equip staff with the skills they need to perform their roles effectively. For example, we sponsor around 60 employees each year to undertake studies at various levels from NVQ to Masters, and offer a variety of training courses, both internally and externally. On average each member of staff receives three training sessions per year.

We ask for feedback from staff on their training and development, through an annual Employee Opinion Survey, which generated an 87% response rate in 2009.

We hold a staff conference every two years, which all staff attend. Delegates are given presentations by the senior management team on the direction of the Company and on our plans for the future. We also use the occasion to announce the results of the Employee Opinion Survey and to outline the changes that will be made in light of the results. Staff have the opportunity to socialise with colleagues from other locations at the end of formal business.

In 2010, we were proud to have achieved Best Companies One Star Status for the second consecutive year and are committed to attaining the Investors in People standard.
