Description

Decent Homes upgrading works including replacement of roofs, windows, doors, heating systems, kitchen refurbishment, electrical rewiring and external repairs.

Challenges

The first challenge was to carry out stock condition surveys on over 2,000 properties over a three month period to inform the works required to ensure the housing stock meets the Decent Homes standard by the end of December 2010. This will be followed by a planned programme of major works to ensure the stock continues to meet the Decent Homes standard.

The second challenge is the wide geographic spread of properties from Northampton to the Isle of Wight and from Poole in Dorset to Felixstowe in Suffolk. United House has been able to address this through our existing operating bases throughout the south east, together with our online progress management system (FLAG) which programmes and manages the works.

How we made a difference

FLAG offers real time access to all information relating to the individual properties, from contact details, survey documents, photos, plans and certificates, to allow us to effectively and efficiently programme and record works to people’s homes. FLAG is a collaborative tool that can be accessed by United House staff, clients, consultants and subcontractors and is a reflection on the transparent way that United House works.

United House worked with Places for People in its Community Involvement Week in May 2010 on the following projects:

Running Energy Efficiency Workshops with two groups of residents in Peacehaven, Eastbourne.

Participating in two ‘Hands on days’ involving Places For People staff, United House, residents and other contractors in Faversham, Kent, and Peacehaven, helping with planting and weeding and renovating a disused former drying area for residents use.
