Reporting to: Building Services Design Manager
Hours: By arrangement - 37.5 hours per week.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Help to maintain and increase the throughput of work by processing the survey, design and material scheduling of building services elements for various projects. The projects will principally include those linked to local authorities, ie: Decent Homes and New Build Construction.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Decent Homes
- Review clients’ specifications requirements for proposed building services.
- Survey of dwellings to establish heating plant, hot and cold water services, soil and waste water systems, gas and ventilation requirements for specific projects.
- Preparation of drawings for dwellings and the subsequent design of the particular building services requirements using Autodesk’s Architecture (previously ADT) and Flag Design calculation software.
- Evaluation of material requirements and preparation of subsequent automated material requisitions for each particular project.
Development and Construction Projects (New Build & Refurb)- Review Employer’s Requirements/specification for the particular project and comment as necessary.
- Preparation and production of drawings at all stages (approval, construction and record) for the project and the subsequent design of the particular building services requirements using Autodesk’s Architecture (previously ADT). Flag design calculation software to be used where appropriate.
- Co-ordination of mechanical services elements in conjunction with the nominated architect and other consultants.
- Attendance at all design team meetings, required site meetings and any other meeting deemed applicable to the smooth-running of the project.
- Attendance at sub-contractor selection interviews to advise and ask questions.

Associated Duties- Maintaining a watching brief of building services legislation, new products and general technical information for the enhancement and general knowledge of projects and the department’s needs.
- Investigate and examine the potential of renewable energy and the Code for Sustainable Homes and how they can be integrated into particular projects.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
- Ideally some relevant experience in Building Services and studying towards professional relevant qualification.
- Building Services HNC qualified or equivalent.
- Ability to liaise across all organisational levels.
- High numeracy and literacy skills.
- Working knowledge of AutoCad computer aided design software.
