Hale Village update

Hale Village update

31/08/2010

One cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer scale of the Hale Village site. Sitting alongside the River Lea and the North London reservoirs, three huge tower cranes overlook this massive regeneration site in Tottenham.

This urban village is fast taking shape. On completion, the development will boast 1,200 homes in a mix of student, social family rented, shared ownership and private housing, commercial space (including a new HQ for client Newlon Housing Trust), a new shopping street as well as green space. The student accommodation block is already completed and occupied.

United House's involvement comprises phases 1 and 2 infrastructure works, construction of NW1 Block (with the reinforced concrete frame now complete, the 102 units will be a mix of shared ownership and rented across four, seven and 11 floors), C Block (110 units - podium slab now complete and ground floor construction having commenced), N Block (176 units on six floors with piling starting this week) and the construction of a CHP (combined heat and power) plant for the whole site.

The CHP plant features two biomass boilers that burn environmentally-friendly wood pellets. Another green innovation on site includes a rooftop allotment on NWI where residents will be able to grow their own produce at the same time as enjoying the view.

During the infrastructure works extensive WWII air raid shelters were discovered and can just be seen in the centre of the photo. These had become flooded with the passage of time and required surveying for potential hazards.

The programme is on schedule and once complete Hale Village will transform what was once a garage depot into an exciting riverside community, providing high quality homes and jobs for local people.
